2020 African locust disaster latest news
Added:2020-10-18     Views:

In recent days, the world has been actively trying to control the outbreak of new coronavirus pneumonia, but there have been outbreaks of locusts in some countries. This plague of locusts, which started in African countries, is the most serious plague of locusts in 70 years. Since December 2019, locusts have destroyed tens of thousands of hectares of farmland in Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia, which have declared a complete halt to agricultural production. Swarms of desert locusts could sweep across more countries in Africa and threaten the livelihoods of more people, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations said recently.

Desert locusts are desert locusts from Africa and the Middle East. Desert locusts are probably the most dangerous of the locusts because their swarms can fly much farther quickly. The plague of locusts, which started in central Africa, has spread from Africa to the Middle East and South Asia, with India and Pakistan now leading the way, and is expected to continue to spread eastwards, threatening Africa, the Middle East and parts of Asia. There are now more than 400 billion! And this time it was desert locusts. With plenty of rainfall and good ground conditions, locusts naturally grow quickly, and for another reason, their fearsome ability to reproduce. A female locust can produce about 200 to 400 eggs. With good environment and sufficient food, it takes only 2-3 weeks from Larva to adult. The females will spawn again, so there's a problem that the first generation of locusts is still in the air and the second generation of locusts is buried in the ground, and that could be a big problem in the rainy season.

Hoppers should be mastered before the 3rd Instar for extensive application of insecticides to control hoppers. Ultra-low volume or low volume spray with Malathion EC or ultra-low volume spray on the ground with Malathion EC.
